Vasiliki's Intro Poem

Hi Everybody! I'm very moved by all your poems. I agree with Kasey's comments about some befuddlement as to post-first book voice. I told myself that I wasn't going to overthink this. And then I overthought it. So here is a poem, picking up on the apple tree motif.

Nostalgia of the Apple Tree

apple trees are rooted, gnarled
apple trees belong
apple trees are dopia, local

immigrants are not apple trees
immigrants are uprooted
apple trees are not olive trees

poets are uprooted
olive trees are millennia old

uprooted poets who strive
toward the sun

are floating and subject
to wind gusts

nostalgia of the apple tree
and the olive grove

of the tender loam of home
