Hi all,
Please let us all know how you're finding this process so far. Especially in terms of timing: for our first round, we submitted poems one month and then spent the next month commenting on each other's work. Is this too much? Too little? Would you prefer to submit a poem AND submit comments all in one month? Would love to hear your thoughts about this and about any other part of the process you'd like to share about. Much thanks!
Kasey
Hi Everyone,
ReplyDeleteI'm very happy with the pace of things, although part of me wonders if submitting a poem in the first 1/2 of the month and then responding the 1/2 half would allow is to gain more momentum? I know everyone is busy, so I wouldn't want to put pressure on anyone. Happy to keep things as they are but also happy to write and respond to poems on a monthly basis.
Allow *us*. Sorry for the typo!
DeleteYes, I agree with Shannon. Let's try to do another poem + feedback within the month of February.
ReplyDeleteI'm OK with this, but I'm wondering how others feel - ? I also don't want to put pressure on anyone. We could try posting and responding within the month in Feb., and just see how that feels. Or we could try it and tweak our process of responding a bit - respond more briefly somehow? I know I'm going to be super busy with work stuff this month, so I'm thinking about how to do this in a way that feels connected yet also not stressful...
ReplyDeleteI had one more thought! I'm mindful of the fact that we all have different goals, and might like different types/amounts of feedback - some of us are trying to generate more work, others to revise existing poems, others are putting together a manuscript. I'm in the first group, and though I am really grateful for everyone's comments - which I found super thoughtful and helpful - I'm truly fine receiving less feedback, since I'd like to focus on writing more regularly. I wouldn't want anyone to feel uncomfortable asking for more feedback, though... but it just occurred to me that we don't need to be a one-size-fits-all group...
ReplyDeleteI'd like to try the somewhat faster pace suggested. I agree with Kasey that it doesn't have to be one-size-fits-all - for those for whom the proposed pace could be too much, would it work for people to just step in and out as they are able? If you have a poem ready to post, then post it; if you have time to write comments, write comments; with a basic underlying structure of trying to post a poem in the first half of the month, and complete comments by the end of the month. Just a thought. Really grateful for your poems and comments and fine with whatever process the group likes.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree. We could also check in and set monthly goals for ourselves on the first of the month (in a non pressure kind of way) so that if we're really busy one month but have more free time the next, we can vary our aims/take things one month at a time.
ReplyDeleteI really like both Dargie's and Shannon's suggestions. What do others think? I'm happy to try this basic structure of posting in the first half of the month, responding in the second half, with the flexibility for everyone to a) ask for the type/amount of feedback they would like, and b) contribute more or less detailed comments as they're able, depending on the month. I know this month is going to be busy for me, so I'll likely make brief comments, if that's OK with everyone.
ReplyDeleteOthers who haven't weighed in, please let us know your thoughts!
Hi all--I'm so sorry I haven't commented on most people's poems yet. I WILL! A combination of family sickness (just flu/kid ear infections) and work demands has torpedoed my month, and I'm digging out. I'll try to keep up, but may be on the slower side through the spring. You're all inspiring, in producing new work and your generosity with each other! More soon.
ReplyDeleteHello All,
ReplyDeleteThings are getting busy for me too, and I'm sorry to say that I'm going to have to step away from the group for now. I'd still like to check back in when I can, and please feel free to reach out to me individually too (ethel_rackin@yahoo.com). It's been great reading everyone's work, and meeting this way. And thanks for your insights!
Hi all! Life has been emotionally draining these past two weeks but I find this group centering. Everyone's work is inspiring and so different from one another's. I would like to try to keep to the pace suggested, as I have some "almost there" poems that I would like to finish (is that even possible?) enough to submit. I am grateful for everyone's suggestions on the funeral poem and intend to try them out! Hope everyone gets better/stays well this month!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, everyone, for sharing - we have a plan! Let's post poems by Feb. 15 and try to post responses by the end of the month. Cheers, and happy February! Looking forward to everyone's work. Ethel, we will miss you!
